simple pleasures: the joys of conversing
July 25, 2007 by moriahjoy
I love dialoguing, people, and relationships.
I’ve had the joy of having had scintillating conversations with two separate couples the last two nights in a row; I am completely sleep-deprived as a result of staying out much too late, but I am entirely satisfied with my decision.
There is something that is exhilarating, and dare I say, thrilling about connecting with other human beings in conversation – of finding yourself in the depths of a deep exchange of beliefs, life experience, ideologies — political, theoretical, relational, philosophical, or theological –viewpoints.
Communication is one of my passions; to find likeminded individuals, not in terms of beliefs held, but in terms of the love of discussing, of probing, of challenging, of questioning, of learning, of pursing truth, is one of the greatest joys of life.
Some of my best friends are friends with whom I am almost diametrically opposed to on all subject matters but who can hold a great conversation and who help me sharpen my own highly esteemed opinions (or, in reality, help knock me off my soap box and open my eyes to new perspectives, thus ultimately strengthening my own positions by having been tested and challenged).
Add coffee to the conversation, and there are times I’m not sure life could get any better.
