I just finished the primary cleaning up after a large dinner party and I’m looking forward to settling into the couch with a book and a good cup of coffee. (Yes, my worn, brown leather couches do engulf you, so you really must “settle into” them. =) They are fabulous couches. The kind people want to come over simply to lay on.

I love having people over.
I used to have an open door policy when I was living near campus and thus was more central to a lot of people - people would come over unannounced all the time, all hours of the day and night, and I would throw gatherings and dinner parties on a regular basis. The last year as I was working crazy hours, my home ceased to be the center hub of the social circles I travel in…but last night gave me a taste of things to come..again. ;p
I had my leadership team (7 students), my partner and her husband (and my roommate joined in) over for dinner. ;) Becca helped me make two burgeoning pans of lasagna, and we also had salad, garlic bread and then brownies, vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. It was yummy, but the best part of the evening was having a full house again - people everywhere, on the couches, spread out on the floor, sitting at the table, laughing, visiting, enjoying life, enjoying each other.
I really love hosting and look forward to starting to open up my home again this upcoming year as my extra-long work hours continue to cut back into a more normal schedule.
Wahoo!
I find such joy in welcoming anyone into my home, offering them a cup of coffee or tea and delving into good conversation.
It’s a good weekend.
I wish I could come visit you when I’m home (for a short time) this summer. I miss you dearly. You make your home sound so cozy!
Let me know when you’re coming home and we’ll pick a date. :)
I look forward to it greatly!!!!
Love you.
Hospitality is a beautiful gift, and I’m pleased to hear that you practice it. :-)
Thanks, greekphysique.
=)
I love it and agree it’s a beautiful gift, but while I do “practice it” I’m not sure it should be called a “practice” if it’s something I naturally (albeit, intentionally) do.
;p
My heart would be sad if I could not, for some reason, practice hospitality. Extremely sad. One of my standing roommate criteria has been an understanding that I’m a people-person and that as such, I will be having people over often.
;p
People loved to be around Jesus, especially the “unlovely” by society standards, the marginalized, etc. and the people I most love to be around are those who are loving, warm and welcoming - who embrace you as you are, for who you are, and just…take you in. That’s my role model.
